I am absolutely inspired by Andy Warhol’s '60s pop muse girl Edie Sedgwick.
Edie’s hip chic look, free-spirited attitude and authenticity created the effortless yet edgy style she was known for. Her short platinum hair and dark-lined eyes matched up with the ballet-inspired look that had an influence on the style of that era. Edie paired-up tights and leotards with everything - from shirts to dresses - to create her own look. I also love her animal-printed fur coats choices and the big sized earrings and accessories.
According to Siena Miller (who played Sedgwick in the movie Factory Girl), "Edie used to do this jazz ballet. Every day she'd put on her tights and her leotard and she'd dance around her apartment. She was too lazy to change so she'd put a big coat on over that and go out, so everybody started to copy this look."
Fashion trends seen in Miami: denim short jumpers, high-waisted white denim capri, cotton checkered shorts, floral-inspired printed dresses, tulip shaped chiffon dresses, floral cotton tunics, gladiator sandals and bright coloured flats.
The decoration trend seen in Miami that inspired me the most was the Edie Sedgewick, Lisa Minelli-inspired pillows seen at Nathan's stores in Miami Beach.

This year, São Paulo Fashion Week presented not only a creative and high-quality winter collection but also showcased a new market scenario. Enzo Monzani and Conrado Will, investors of a private equity company, purchased some of the most important Brazilian brands, creating a single holding company called HLDC. Alexandre Herchcovitch, Fausen Haten, Cumplice and Chocolate were acquired by the group early this year with the intention of improving the clothing quality and design by investing the resources in technology and research. The investment is intended to increase the piece of the internal market share owned by the new holding since in 2008 the company is expecting to have $150 million dollars in revenue. Since the Brazilian internal economy is growing at a fast pace, a $28 billion dollar market in 2007 with a 16.5% increase from 2006, the company believes that unifying strong brands under a single umbrella should decrease costs and free the designers to focus solely on their own collection. Apart from the internal market, HLDC is also aiming to get international exposure, a market poorly explored by Brazilian designers. HLDC was already owner of other important Brazilian brands such as Zoomp and Zapping.

I had the chance to go to Couromodas, the biggest Brazilian Footwear tradeshow, that happened this past January 2008. Couromoda showcased not only a range of winter trends but also summer flats, gladiator sandals and platform sandals. The trends seen in Brazil were tailored to the sassy spirit, easy going lifestyle and warm weather but it can also be used as a font of inspiration to the coming spring season in North America.
I was also impressed with the luxury of the booths. The investment amazed even a regular footwear buyer like me. The booths carried lounge areas, funky designs with material-related applications (Melissa used plastic straps, the primary material of their shoes, as a source of decoration) and innovative ways of showcasing the product (with mannequins coming out of the walls).In order to get Brazilian footwear economy back on track, hurt by China imports, they had to invest in markets such as Europe and Middle East. While I was waiting in line to visit the most important booths I saw many Iraq and Italian-based buyers. Also, Brazilian internal economy is booming and the national sales have never been better. In order to survive the competitive marketplace, Brazilians are developing their own design identity. Based on that, I would recommend checking out the next Couromodas. www.couromoda.com.

I absolutely loved the mix of materials seen at the trade show. Metallic paired up with snakeskin, python-inspired metallic sandals, plastic sandals with metallic appliqués, patent leather combined with suede and metallic trims and leather matched up with plastics.I could not resist and bought myself a pair of these gorgeous flats by Cris Bronzato (Lou Loux) that showcase a combination of materials and colours.-Novelty Prints a la “Lolita”: with smack-inspired prints and heart-shaped straps in shoes and accessories.-Colour Craze: Bright colours is the must have of the season everywhereBrands worth to check it out:

I absolutely loved the “Farm Rio” collection. They showed a combination of bright colours, bold prints, rainbow-inspired patterns, yellow polka-dots dresses and drop-crotch trousers to wear over bikini.
